Hide and Seek: public test sign-up
Put your name in the hat for a chance to play Hide and Seek before anybody else.
About the game
Hide and Seek is exactly what it sounds like, no more, no less. Well, it might actually be a bit more than it sounds like, who knows.
So here's the idea. Somebody gets picked to seek, and they have to stand there and count while everyone else runs off to find somewhere to hide. Once they're done counting, they come looking for you. Get caught and you're out, or you can switch sides and help hunt down your friends, which is honestly more fun than it should be. But hiders aren't helpless. You've got a bag full of traps, and the seeker is going to have a really bad time walking into them.
It started when me and a friend were playing hide and seek in another game that had voice chat, and we figured it deserved a game of its own, with items, proper maps and so on. So we made one.
What's in it
- Voice chat that works by distance. If you can hear the seeker, the seeker can hear you, so maybe don't laugh in the closet.
- About twenty traps and items for the hiders, and you can dig up more by searching the furniture.
- Seekers get a weapon and a few ways to sniff people out, but none of them come free.
- A bunch of maps: houses, a manor, a lab, an island, a haunted forest and more. There are doors, lifts, ladders, trees to climb and furniture to smash.
- Paper, if you can find some. Write notes and leave them lying around the map for whoever comes across them.
- Replays. If the host turns recording on, you can listen back to any round through anyone's ears, slow it down to work out exactly how you got caught, and publish the good ones so everyone can hear them.
- Host your own games and set them up how you like: how long the hunt and the count go on for, how many seekers, how they get picked, what they get to swing, and what the hiders are allowed to bring.
- Got caught and don't want to seek? Float around as a spectator and listen to everyone else get found.
- Bots that can hide or seek, for when there aren't enough people on.
- Badges for playing well, for showing up, and for doing stupid stuff. Most of them give you something, and the hard ones give you a title.
- A profile that keeps track of how you've been doing.
- Some days of the year are a little different. We're not saying which.
- Help docs in the game for pretty much everything, and a way to report problems to staff without leaving it.
How the test works
Signing up does not guarantee you a place.
- Sign-ups close on Tuesday 27 October 2026 at 12:00 AM UTC, so Monday 26 October is the last day to get your name in. After that, we will pick people at random from everybody who signed up, and send each of them a link to download the game.
- Not everyone will get in. If you are not picked, you will not hear from us.
- If you are picked, the game is yours to keep playing. There is no end date on the test. We are not taking it away from you after a week.
- This is not a release, and it should not be treated as one. There will be bugs, some of them small and some of them large. Finding them is the whole reason the test exists, so please tell us about them when you do.
- You can only sign up once. Extra sign-ups are refused, and do not improve your chances.
